This 1971 GTO is a one year production car making certain parts difficult if not impossible to find. It started life Aztec Gold with a 400 4 speed. At some point the care was painted red and the engine was partially disassembled. Pulling the motor and separating the body from the frame, we sent the frame to the sand blasters and the motor the machine shop to be gone through. Once back, we coated the frame with Chassis Saver and painted the the block and heads Blue Poly before assembling the engine and installing it in the frame. The cowl area, rockers, rear quarters, inner wheel houses, trunk, and rear tail section all needed replaced. The fenders for a '71 GTO are year specific and not being commercially reproduced. We used fenders from a Pontiac LeMans as a platform to make a set of 71 GTO fenders. the LeMans fenders are very similar except for the area where the bumper and fender meet and the lack of the air vent on the rear lower fender. Using the original lower front fenders and replacement panels for the lower rear fenders, we made a set of 1971 GTO Front Fenders. Other areas of rust like the hood and bottom of the doors have been repaired by making patch panels and welding them in. Door gaps and trunk lid gaps are corrected before spraying epoxy primer and high build for blocking. Once the blocking is completed, a final coat of epoxy sealer is sprayed before 4 coats of Carousel Red and 4 coats of 2002 Clear.
